James W. "Jim" Whitley, 71, died Friday, May 20, 2011, at his residence.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 24, from 1 until 2 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. at the Seymour Funeral Home Chapel with Bill Garner officiating. Burial will follow at New Hope Friends Cemetery.
A native of Wayne County, Mr. Whitley was born Oct. 2, 1939. He was a graduate of New Hope High School and Guilford College, in Greensboro. His first job during and after college was as a reporter and photographer for the Greensboro Daily News. He later studied accounting and was a practicing certified public accountant for more than 40 years.
Mr. Whitley was preceded in death by his father, H. Clarence Whitley; his mother, Lillie Mae Rouse Whitley; his former wife, Linda Faye Watson; his youngest son, John Clarence Whitley; and his nephew, Chuck M. Whitley.
He is survived by his son, James W. "Jack" Whitley Jr.; daughter, Phyllis Katherine Whitley; daughter-in-law Marilyn Jordan Whitley; granddaughter, Maris Jordan Whitley; brother, Charles M. Whitley; and numerous other family and friends.
