PARK WILSON DENNIS

Park Dennis, 97, died Monday in Goldsboro, N.C.

Mr. Dennis was a longtime resident of Brandonville, W. Va., and was one of the last surviving one-room country school teachers in Preston County, W. Va. After teaching 27 years in one-room public schools, Mr. Dennis taught U.S. history and civics at Northern High School in Grantsville, Md., until his retirement in 1973.

Preceding Mr. Dennis in death were his father and mother, Noah and Mary Frazee Dennis; his wife, Eleanor Thomas Dennis; and his second wife, Lucille Keller Dennis.

He is survived by his son, Dr. Verl Dennis, and his daughter-in-law, Dr. Frances Dennis, both of Goldsboro.

In the last five years, Mr. Dennis lived in Sterling House of Goldsboro, an assisted living facility. He amazed residents and employees alike by his determination to bounce back from two hip replacements and various other medical conditions.

He was an active walker and inspired Mr. Park's Walking Club to help other residents to keep physically fit. He was known for his, quick smile, positive outlook and gentleness by residents and employees.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Sterling House of Goldsboro for its continuing care, compassion and kindness. Thank you for all you have done.

The family requests that to honor Mr. Dennis, memorials be made to your favorite charity.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Mr. Dennis will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jerry Mitchell officiating. Visitation will follow the service.
