DUDLEY -- Mattie Geneva Underwood Newsome, 74, passed away Wednesday at Life Care Hospital in Rocky Mount surrounded by her family.
Mattie was born in Sampson County Nov. 5, 1935, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Lonnie Underwood.
She enjoyed caring for her family, and will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Mattie attended Goldsboro Worship Center.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. at Goldsboro Worship Center, with the Rev. Danny Johnson officiating. A private interment for the family will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Casey Cemetery.
Mattie is survived by her children, Henry Dickson Newsome and wife, Barbara, of Dudley, Margie McMullen and husband, Keith, of Princeton, Johnny Newsome of Goldsboro, Patricia Fralick and husband, Duane, of Goldsboro and William Newsome and wife, Sandy, of Fremont. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends Thursday following the service at Goldsboro Worship Center, and other times at the home of Henry and Barbara Newsome, 1589 Emmaus Church Road in Dudley.
