BEAUFORT -- Arthur C. Williams, 1001 Court Yard East, died Wednesday at Carolina East Health Systems in New Bern.
Funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Emmaus Baptist Church, 714 Emmaus Church Road in Dudley, with the Rev. Johnny Sasser and the Rev. Jim Willoughby officiating. Committal service will follow in Church Cemetery with Masonic rites and military honors.
There will be a time of sharing with friends and family prior to and after the service at the church.
Surviving are his wife, Edna Earle Holland Williams; sisters, Rachel W. Cox (Donald) of Columbia, S.C., Peggy A. Williams of Goldsboro and Sandra Faye Ivey (Julius) of Raleigh; and brothers, Leslie M. Williams (Thelma) of Spartanburg, S.C., J.M. (Joe) Williams of Hanahan, S.C., Albert Williams Jr. (Betty) of Dudley, Arnold R. Williams of Ladson, S.C., and Maurice A. Williams (Hazel) of Roebuck, S.C.
He was a native of Dudley, and was the son of the late Nettie Winfred Mozingo Williams and the late Albert Williams.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Pauline W. Shafer and Carroll John "C.J." Williams.
Mr. Williams graduated from Brogden High School in 1950, afterwards joining the Army, serving in the Korean War. Returning, he spent three years driving a truck for the Mt. Olive Pickle Co. before deciding to make the Armed Forces his profession, serving 25 years in the Army. He did three tours in Vietnam, and ended his career in the Army as a command sergeant major.
He received a total of 27 awards including a Bronze Star, an Air Medal and the Combat Infantry Badge. Service schools he attended and graduated from were Drill Sergeant School, Track Maintenance School, Senior NCO Academy and CBR Training Course. Additionally, he earned his certification in Vietnamese.
After retiring from the Army, Mr. Williams worked as a service manager for the Chrysler-Dodge dealership in Leesville, La., before it was sold, then became a dispatcher for Mid State Construction Co. for 11 years in Alexander, La.
In 2006, he moved home to Dudley.
Mr. Williams was past master of Forest Hill Lodge # 254 in Forest Hill, La., and was a clown for the Hibibi Shrine Temple in Lake Charles, La.
He was a member of the D.A.V. and the Non- Commissioned Officer Association of San Antonio, Texas, where he served as a permanent trustee. He was a member of Woodmen of the World Lodge 1319, and New Life Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials may be made to the Masonic Home for Children, 600 College St., Oxford, N.C., 27565, or the American Heart Association, 3219 Landmark St., Greenville, N.C., 27834.
