Clifton "Cliff" Haynes, 75, passed away Thursday of natural causes while working at a Habitat for Humanity job site in Goldsboro.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 1 until 2 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, followed by his funeral service at 2 p.m. in the chapel with Chaplain Jameson presiding. Burial will follow at Wayne Memorial Park with full military honors.
He was born in Winn, Maine to the late George Haynes and Hazel Whitney Haynes. Cliff is survived by his wife of 52 years, Evelyn Corinne. He is also survived by his children, Clifton Jr. and wife, Virginia, of Minnesota, Mark and wife, Kathi, of Raleigh, and Robin and husband, Brian, of Massachusetts; his grandchildren, Kyle Haynes, Allyson Haynes and Brady Trippe; and his brother, Clinton Haynes of Maine. Cliff was preceded in death by his brother, Vinyl Haynes.
Cliff spent 30 years in the USAF, retiring at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in May, 1983. His career included working in Strategic and Tactical Air Commands as an aircraft maintenance mechanic. Following retirement, he worked as a civil servant for the U.S. Navy at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point. His work there involved rebuilding naval aircraft at the rework facility until he retired there in 1998.
More recently, Cliff was a dedicated and longtime volunteer for Habitat for Humanity of Wayne County.
