KEN KEEL

On Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009, Paul Kenneth "Ken" Keel, 499 Highway 581 S., left his earthly home to be in a much better place, with his Lord and Savior.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home with the Rev. Billy Olsen officiating. Burial will follow at Wayne Memorial Park with United States Navy Honors and with Fireman Honors. The family will receive family and friends on Thursday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home.
Ken was born on Nov. 10, 1938, in Wayne County to the late Paul James and Madeline Eleanor Williams Keel.
After his discharge from the United States Navy, Ken devoted his life to many years of public service. During his working years, Ken was a charter member of the Wayne County Volunteer Rescue Squad. He retired after 32 years as Lieutenant with the Goldsboro Fire Department and Rescue Squad Unit.
Ken, following his love for travel, owned and operated his own tractor trailer for several years traveling throughout most of the United States. He enjoyed the scenery and towns along the highway and especially enjoyed the beautiful sunrises and sunsets as he traveled cross country. Ken also retired from C.P.C. as a company driver for Moen Plumbing Products out of Kinston.
He was a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans and had also qualified as a Son of the American Revolution. Ken was a member of Pine Forest United Methodist Church. Ken was an avid golfer and if it was a beautiful day, he enjoyed being on the links sharing shots and laughter with his family and friends and had the opportunity to play golf with Sam Snead at the Firestone Golf Course in Akron, Ohio.
Ken is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Lynda Sutton Keel. They had three sons, Kenneth Lathan and friend, Tina Ragan, Paul Wilson and wife, Stacy Schatzman Keel, and Morgan Bartholomew Keel, all of Goldsboro. He is also survived by his sister, Rosemary Keel of Goldsboro; two brothers, Evan and wife, Beverly, of Goldsboro and Stanley and wife, Janice, of Danville, Va.; his sister-in-law, Jane Sutton Hagen of Henderson, Nev.; a nephew, Bryant and wife, Kim Keel, and their children, Rylee and Mason of Goldsboro; two uncles and aunts, Donnell and Mary Williams Garris of Goldsboro, and Lonnie and Lucille Bell of Mount Olive; and several favored cousins.
