RALEIGH -- Jennifer Lisa Jones, 37, passed away Feb. 1, 2009.
Jennifer was born Aug. 26, 1971, in Tokyo, Japan, the daughter of Steven N. Smith and Michi Smith. She was a 1989 graduate of Goldsboro High School and a 1994 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Jennifer earned her master's in education administration from East Carolina University and was completing her doctorate in educational leadership at the School of Education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Jennifer taught at Golds-boro High School and Garner Senior High School and then became the assistant principal at Beddingfield High School in Wilson. She was the assistant principal at Middle Creek High School in Apex, serving in that role since the school was built seven years ago. More than anything, Jennifer loved spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by her loving husband, Rondell Jones; her parents, Steven N. Smith and Michi Smith of Goldsboro; brother, Steven K. Smith and his wife, Felecia, of Raleigh; grandmother, Marie Brown of Philadelphia, Pa.; her father- and mother-in-law, Dana and Carolyn Jones of Maryland; and her beloved dogs, Sato and Buddy.
She also leaves to cherish her memory three nephews, Nathaniel Smith, Jalen Smith and Dana Jones; her niece, Naomi Smith; and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins and numerous friends.
A service celebrating her life will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009, at Poplar Springs Christian Church, 6115 Old Stage Road, Raleigh, N.C. 27603.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make memorial contributions to "Rondell Jones FBO Jennifer L. Jones Memorial Fund," c/o the North Carolina State Employees Credit Union, Attn: Jama Dagenhart or Carol Buffaloe, P.O. Box 389, Garner, N.C. 27529, 919-779-6712. The proceeds will be divided among the National Kidney Foundation, the Lupus Foundation and the American Heart Association.
