GEORGE G. LEWIS
Aug. 20, 1935 - Jan. 19, 2009
LAGRANGE -- George Graham Lewis met his Savior face to face on Monday.
A service of remembrance will be held Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Wheeless and Chris McCallister officiating. Interment will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park.
Graham lived with a passion for helping others. His love, compassion and generosity were evident in every aspect of his life. He enjoyed fishing, gospel music and his grandchildren. Graham was a member of Community Baptist Church. He worked as an engineer and machinist.
He was founder and owner of Wayne Machine Company in Goldsboro until diagnosed with lung cancer in 1993. He said, "God has blessed me in life. We are placed on this earth to love and serve the Lord and then go home to live with Him for eternity." Graham never complained through disappointing diagnosis or pain. He believed that if one person came to know Jesus Christ through his illness, it would be worth it all. He thought of others at each stage of his illness; his family, friends, doctors and nurses, with little thought or worry for himself.
Graham is survived by his wife, Mary Harris Lewis; son, William Keith Lee and wife, Susan, of East Flat Rock; daughters, Robin Re and husband, Mario, of Goldsboro, Phyllis Lewis of Goldsboro, Angela Harris and husband, Don, of Bayboro; grandsons, Alex Hardison and Cade Re; granddaughters, Kristy Pace and husband, Roger, Sarah Prescott, Jennifer Lee, Carrie Lee, Lauren Jones, Heather Jones and Mackenzie Re; stepgrandchildren, Jason and Brittany Harris; great-granddaughter, Leah Kathryn Pace; sisters, Edna Oakley and husband, Andy, of Goldsboro, Ruth Gautier of Goldsboro and Hazel Lambert of Clinton.
Graham was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Mark Lee; parents, Jack and Mae Lewis of Clinton; brother, Cecil Lewis; and sister, Rachel Lewis.
