ALVIN E. EDGERTON

WILMINGTON -- Alvin Earl Edgerton, 86, passed away Saturday evening at his home surrounded by his family.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Seymour Funeral Home followed by a service to remember Alvin at 11 a.m. in the chapel with the Rev. Keith Grogg and David Brindle officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park. A memorial service will be held at a later date at Carolina Beach Presbyterian Church.
Alvin was born in Wayne County on Sept. 27, 1922, to the late David Earl Edgerton and Inez Sutton Edgerton. He retired from Exxon Corporation after 36 years of service. Alvin served his country in the United States Army 20th Armored Division during World War II. He was a member of Goldsboro Friends Meeting.
Alvin is survived by his wife, Mildred Fields Edgerton; his son, Earl Edgerton and wife, Beverly, of Wilmington; his daughters, Wanda Forsythe of Wilmington and Jessica Forsythe of Manhattan, N.Y.; his grandchildren, Michael Forsythe of Wilmington and Mercer Sneed of Wilmington; his sister, Annie Ruth E. Johnson of Winston-Salem; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Sara Elizabeth Edgerton, Lillian Edgerton Lewis and Lorena Therkildsen; and his brothers, Herbert Edgerton, Harold Edgerton and Ralph Edgerton.
The family would like to express a special thanks to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice workers, Mary, Patty, Shirley, Cindy and Sweetie.
