Katie Fields Sauls, 82, passed away on Tuesday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by her family.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Fred Clarke officiating. Interment will be Friday at 11 a.m. in Willow Dale Cemetery.
Katie was born in Wayne County on May 20, 1926, to the late Leonard Fields and Sudie Westbrook Fields. She retired from Wayne County Public Schools. Katie was a member of First Christian Church.
Katie is survived by her devoted husband of 60 years, Joe Ben Sauls; her daughter, Betty Jo Smith and husband, Roger of LaGrange; her sons, Benjamin Kaylor Sauls and wife, Kitty and Randall Malloy Sauls and wife, Jewel, all of Goldsboro; her sister, Lorice McMillan of Goldsboro; her grandchildren, Stephanie Bass, Jonathan Smith, Julie Smith, Heather Honeycutt, Joe Sauls, Carmen Sauls and Emily Sauls; and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Ernie Sauls; her grandchildren, Ben Sauls Jr. and Claire Sauls; and her sisters, Eloise Epps and Hazel Lashley.
Memorials may be made to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 2402 Wayne Memorial Drive, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534. Flowers are also welcome.
The family will receive friends Thursday following the service at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at her home, 119 S. Lee Drive, Goldsboro.
