Mr. Hood was born in Goldsboro to Mildred and Leslie Hood.
He graduated from Goldsboro High School and spent much of his adult life in the Goldsboro community. At the time of his death, he was a resident of Wilmed Nursing Care Center in Wilson, having moved there from The Pines of Goldsboro in October of this year.
Mr. Hood served in the U.S. Army and was a proud World War II veteran. During his career, he worked in positions in both Wayne County government and with the City of Goldsboro. In 1992, he retired from Olsen and Associates, following 20 years of service with the company. While at Olsen, he supervised the construction of water and sewer plants in Belhaven, Eden, Wilmington, Greenville, Burlington, Raleigh, Goldsboro and Wilson.
Treating everyone with respect, Mr. Hood never met a stranger and generously shared his good humor and funny stories. During the holiday season each year, friends could count on receiving some of the wonderful chocolate fudge that he loved to make. He enjoyed fishing and was proud of the Citation he received from the State of North Carolina for catching a 36 pound Wahoo. He was a member of Wayne Masonic Lodge number 112 and was recognized in 2006 for his 60 years as a Master Mason.
Mr. Hood and his wife were charter members of St. Luke United Methodist Church in Goldsboro.
Mr. Hood cherished his family and is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Margaret ("Pee Wee") Worrell Hood, who is currently a resident of Wilmed Nursing Care Facility in Wilson.
He is also survived by his daughters, Beverly Mitchell and husband Ray of Wilson, and Leslie Bevacqua Coman and husband Ed of Raleigh; his grandchildren, Simone Walsh and husband Tom of Charlotte, Suzette Fulford and husband Ted of Wilson, Robin Bolash and husband Eric of Raleigh, Warren Bevacqua and wife Jennifer Williams of Harrisburg, Pa., and Chip Mitchell and wife, Loree of Wilson; and his great-grandchildren, John Thomas Walsh of Charlotte, McKenzie and Addison Fulford, of Wilson, Mila and Risa Bolash, of Raleigh, and Peyton Mitchell, of Wilson.
He was preceded in death by his parents Leslie Hood and Mildred Hood Kinnard, his stepfather K. P. Kinnard; his brother, William G. Hood and his half brother, George Kinnard.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to St. Luke United Methodist Church, 1608 E. Pine St., Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.
