RALEIGH -- Sadie Lou Swinson Carter, 87, died Friday at Blue Ridge Health Care in Raleigh, surrounded by her family.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday at Tyndall Funeral Home in Mount Olive. The Rev. Michael Whitesides will be officiating, and burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery.
A native of the Beautancus community near Mount Olive, she had been a member of the Bear Marsh Baptist Church from childhood until she relocated to Raleigh in 1947, and became a member of Forest Hills Baptist Church there.
She was a retired insurance office manager.
She is survived by her husband, Don H. Carter of the home; a sister, Abbie Pearl "Kit" Clarke of Raleigh; a brother, David Swinson of Raleigh; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Her parents, George Washington Swinson and Ina Kate Quinn Swinson; a sister, Edith Edna S. Spell; and two brothers, Liston Lee Swinson, and George W. "Hop" Swinson, preceded her in death.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home during the hour prior to the service.
