William "Bill" Ormond Sr., 63, 207 Meredith Drive, died suddenly at Wayne Memorial Hospital on Sunday.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home with pastor David Hayes and the Rev. Leroy Evans officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery with full military honors.
Born in Wayne County, he was the son of Mabel Upchurch and the late Bill "Jessie" Lee Ormond Jr. He attended The Lord's Vineyard Church and was employed with O'Berry Center. He was a retired veteran of the U.S. Army National Guard and was a recipient of the Meritorious Service Medal. He was a retired firefighter and first responder with the Rosewood Volunteer Fire Department where he served as assistant chief. He was a past president and lifetime member of the Wayne County Firemen's Association. Bill was very active in local youth sports, including his daughter Kayla's fast-pitch softball team, The Hurricanes.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Tina Kaye Moody.
In addition to his mother, Mr. Ormond is survived by his wife, Patricia Ormond; a son, Bill Ormond Jr. and wife, Teresa; daughters, Kayla Ormond, Sherry Lewis, Tammy Kearney and husband, Jim, and Lisa Lewis; sister, Toni Ormond; brothers, Vernon Ormond and wife, Pat, Richard Ormond and wife, Darlene, and Robert Ormond and wife, Terri; and grandchildren, Cameron Smith, Seth, Justin, Lee and Jason.
Bill will be missed by everyone whose lives he touched with his loving kindness. He will long be remembered for his dedication and outstanding loyalty to family and friends.
Family members will greet friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home and at other times will be at the home.
Flowers are welcome, or the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the family.
