Mrs. Lela Mae Spruill, 83, 603 Lockhaven Court, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday at 11 a.m. at White Oak Grove Original Free Will Baptist Church, 2261 Big Daddy's Road in Pikeville with Minister Keith E. Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Wayne Memorial Park Cemetery. A viewing will be held on Friday at Hamilton Funeral Chapel, 423 S. James St., from 1 to 7 p.m. A wake will be conducted Friday evening from 6 to 7 p.m. at Hamilton Funeral Chapel with the family present to receive other family members and friends.
Mrs. Lela Mae was born Sept. 7, 1925, in Wayne County to the late Lamm Brown and Carrie Hamm Lamm.
Mrs. Spruill was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, sister-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother and a member at White Oak Grove Original Free Will Baptist Church in Pikeville.
Her devoted and loving husband, David Spruill entered into eternal rest in 1989; her sons, Carlton Spruill entered into eternal rest in 1965, Wilbert Hamm entered into eternal rest in 2003, and Joseph Spruill entered into eternal rest in 1966; and her grandson, Petrosky Faison entered into eternal rest in 1996. These loving family members preceded Mrs. Lela Mae in death.
Left to cherish her loving memory are her very devoted children, Michael J. Spruill of Goldsboro, Judith Baker and husband, James Sterlin of Pikeville, Edith S. Powell and Carrie S. Faison both of Goldsboro; six grandchildren; Shannon Pierre Baker and wife, Denise of Pikeville, Shauna Baker of Ben Brook, Texas, Marcus Barker of Pikeville, Vander Valechi Spruill of Baltimore, Md., T-Lee R. Williams of Goldsboro and Wilbert Clarke of Mount Olive; six great-grandchildren, Maurriell Baker, Shamar Baker, Shannon Baker, Devajhea Applewhite, Jaalin Applewhite, Jahiem Williams; two sisters, Esther H. Smith and Virgina B. Coley; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
At other times, the family will receive friends at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. James Sterlin Baker, 554 Artis Road, Pikeville, N.C., 27863.
