GREENSBORO -- Mary Rose Herring Holbrook, 83, Pisgah Church Road, died Wednesday at Greensboro's Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Seven Springs Cemetery at "The Church on the Hill" in Seven Springs, with the Rev. Roy J. Winn officiating. Visitation will follow in the church fellowship hall.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday at Mount Pisgah United Methodist Church, Pisgah Church Road, Greensboro, with Ed Allred, Diaconal Minister, officiating.
Visitation will immediately follow in the church fellowship hall.
Born in Seven Springs, she was the daughter of the late James Buren Herring and Katie Eakes Herring Waters.
She was retired from Carlyle and Co.. where she worked in the accounting department. She had served as a volunteer at Moses Cones Hospital in the gift shop, was a Lioness, and was a former member of West Market Street United Methodist Church, Greensboro. She was the widow of J. Van Holbrook.
She is survived by two sons, James Lee Carter of Wrightsville Beach, and Lester Lee Carter III of the home in Greensboro; a daughter, Julie Carter Iddings and husband, Kevin Iddings, of Greensboro; two beloved grandchildren, Kristin and Cody Iddings of Greensboro; two sisters, Hazel H. LaValley and husband, Albert "Red" LaValley, of Tavares, Fla., and Carolyn H. Griffin Price and husband, Atlas Price Jr., of Seven Springs; her former husband and the father of her children, Lester Lee Carter Jr. of Thomasville; four nieces, Karla Griffin, Kelly Griffin, and Allie Griffin Price, all of Seven Springs, and Barbara Garris Bowen of Williamston; and her beloved Bassett Hound, "Lady Bug"
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Seven Springs Cemetery Fund, c/o Mack Grady, 127 Jerusalem Church Road, Seven Springs, N.C., 28578, or Hospice and Palliative Care, Moses H. Cone Hospital, 1200 N. Elm St., Greensboro, N.C., 27404.
She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and sister, and she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening and the beach. She will be sorely missed.
