Sadie Davis McClenny, last surviving child of George and Christina Davis, entered eternity on Saturday with her daughters by her side.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park with the Rev. Thurman Horney officiating.
She is deeply loved by Peggy M. Townsend (Alex) and Sandi M. Willis (David); grandchildren, Neal (Meg), Sarah (Joe), Ben (fiancee Brigette) and Wade; Darla (Arlin), Dave (Hope); great-grandchildren, Michael and Morgan. She will be lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews and our wonderful Uncle Max.
Born Sept. 6, 1916, Mom began her life as one of 13 children on a farm in Johnston County. Living on a farm, she developed her love of gardening, cooking and sewing. During W.W.II, Mom conducted a Home Demonstration class teaching local women how to use a pressure cooker among many other home related activities. Farm life taught our mom the value of being self-reliant, independent and thrifty.
On March 1, 1945, Mom married Samuel F. McClenny, who preceded her in death Oct. 12, 1999. Daddy always remained the love of her life. A few years after marriage, they opened their hearts to us, adopting from the Children's Home Society of N.C. Their deep love of family, lead them to become foster parents. Our home was always full and busy! As years went by, Dad's job required us to relocate several times. Mom had a gift of making any house a home in no time at all. Home and family always meant everything to her. No matter where we were, Mom filled our home with good food, lovely music and lots of love.
One of mom's greatest joys was her grandchildren. Not only did she teach them the value of a good education and a job well done; but she also taught all of us, by her example, the joy of Faith and the Power of Prayer.
Mom had lived the last few years at Rex Rehab and NSG of Raleigh. There she made many wonderful friends with residents and staff alike. She enjoyed cruising all the halls, "helping" the nurses, passing out hugs and hiding apples.
Throughout her decline, Mom's gentle, loving spirit remained strong. How blessed our lives have been!
