MIRIAM T. SIMMONS

Miriam Thompson Simmons, lovingly known by her family as "Adelaide," of 1402 Stephens St., Goldsboro, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2008, at Duke University Hospital.
Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 601 W. Elm St., with Dr. Kenneth Tate officiating. Burial will follow in the Old Mill Cemetery, 1104 Central Heights Road. A viewing will be held on Tuesday morning, Oct. 28, 2008, at Antioch Baptist Church, 601 W. Elm St., from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
A wake will be conducted Monday evening, Oct. 27, 2008, from 6 to 7 p.m. at Hamilton Funeral Chapel, 423 S. James St., Goldsboro, with the family present to receive other family members and friends.
Miriam was born April 10, 1941, in Wayne County to the late Jack Thompson and Lillie Jacobs Thompson Rodgers. She attended Central High School and graduated in the Class of 1959. Miriam furthered her education at North Carolina Central University in Durham, where she received her bachelor of science degree in home economics. Mrs. Simmons taught in the Maxton Public School System for a period of two years. However, Miriam's heart was set on home. She transferred to the Goldsboro/Wayne County Public School System and taught for 44 years, faithfully. Mrs. Simmons was a loving sister, wife, mother, grandmother and a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, Goldsboro.
Left to cherish her loving memories are her husband, James F. Simmons of the home; her children, James Tavaras Simmons and Jaresa Perette Simmons, both of Greenville, and Michael LaVenskey Simmons and wife, Robin, of Stallings; her grandchildren, Miles and Ryan Simmons of Stallings; her living siblings, Minnie D. Coley of Washington, D.C., Isadora Thompson and Esther Thompson, both of Virginia Beach, Va., Aaron Thompson and wife, Lois, of Washington, D.C., Mary Thompson of Irvington, N.J., Nathan Thompson and wife, Annie, Edna Faison and husband, Harry Lee, and Wendell Thompson, all of Faison; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
At other times, the family will receive friends at the residence of Mr. James Simmons, 1402 Stephens St., Goldsboro, N.C. 27530.
