RUTH V. SUMMERS

Mrs. Ruth Virginia Summers, 86, 1219 N. John St., peacefully departed her earthly life on Sunday at Wayne Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. at St. Mark Church of Christ, 700 W. Ash St., with Bishop Alton Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery. A viewing will be held on Friday at Hamilton Funeral Chapel, 423 S. James St., from 2 to 7:30 p.m. and the family will be present from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. to receive friends. At other times the family will receive friends at the home.

Ruth began her journey on July 1, 1922, born to the late Green Allen Reid and Isabella Barnes Reid, formerly of Belfast. She was one of nine siblings, all of which preceded her in death; (Frank, Jack, Albert, Willie Allen, Johnnie Lee Reid, Nora Flowers Hamilton, Fannie Lewis and Lillie Bell Russell).

She attended Wayne County Schools. At an early age she joined Greenleaf Christian Church and she was one of the first members of the New Greenleaf Church of Christ where she served on Home Mission, Floral Club and the Senior Choir until she was lead to join St. Mark Church of Christ where she attended until her health failed.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 42 years Preston Summers.

Out of this loving union she leaves to cherish her precious memories their children, Lisa, Bruce and Miya of the home. James Henry and Bernice (Michael) of Raleigh, Bobby (Beverly), Geraldine (Raymond), Christine (Lawrence), Michael (Beverly) and Joyce (Tony) all of Goldsboro, Carolyn of Hampton, Va., Jimmy of San Francisco, Ca and Billy of Tampa, Fla.; 18 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; two special sons, Thurman Bunn and Bishop Allen Smith; a special sister-in-law, Lillie Mae Reid of Goldsboro; a special brother-in-law, Lonnie Russell of Goldsboro; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
