MELBA G. ANDERSON

Melba Gardner Anderson, 87, Elroy Community, passed away on Tuesday.
The family will receive friends Friday from 1 to 2 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m. in the chapel with Dr. Alan Lamm and the Rev. Bryant Hines officiating. Burial will follow in New Hope Friends Cemetery.
Mrs. Anderson is survived by her sons, retired Lt. Col.,Woodrow A. Anderson of Goldsboro and Frank Anderson and wife, Mary of Wilson; a daughter, Rose A. Goodyear and husband, Bobby of Goldsboro; her grandchildren, Scott Goodyear and wife, Gwen of Wilmington, Kim G. Lawrence and husband, Kevin of New Bern, Tony Anderson of Florida, George Anderson and wife, Lori of Hickory, Lee Ann Lewis and husband, Jeff of Swannanoa , William Anderson and wife, Pegine and Jonathan Anderson of Austin, Texas, Brian, Troy and Doug Anderson of Goldsboro, Carlton Anderson and wife, Lisa of Chapel Hill; step-granddaughter, Robin Malpass and husband, Marshall of Clayton, Lisa Campbell of Colorado and Scott Spencer of England; brother, Jim Gardner and wife, Fran of Angier and sister-in-law, Dannie Gardner of Goldsboro.
She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Amber and Hannah Goodyear of Wilmington, Logan Lawrence of New Bern, Wilson Mills and Lily Lewis of Swannanoa and George Marshall Anderson of Hickory.
Mrs. Anderson was a life-long native of Wayne County and was the youngest child born to James Henry and Rosa Thompson Gardner.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Woodrow W. Anderson, a tobacco and grain farmer; her daughter-in-law, Sheri Anderson; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mrs. Brantley (Carrie) Speight of Winterville, Mrs. Ezra (Mary) Pate, Mrs. Helen Minchew and Inez Gardner of Goldsboro, Mrs. Tempie Lee Best Gray, Mrs. Alvin (Hazel) Wade of Cary and Mrs. Clyde (Fannie) Cox of Wilson; brothers and sisters-in-law, Lyman (Celia) Gardner, Tillman Gardner, Herod (Mary Emma) Gardner and George Gardner of Goldsboro, Roland (Ola) Gardner of New Bern and Cecil (Doris) Gardner of Rocky Mount; and her step-mother, Mary T. Gardner.
She gave of herself freely to the family and helping others. She was an active member of Casey's Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, holding many positions and attended faithfully until her declining health.
