Mr. Terry William Oscar "Waylon" Smith, 50, passed away suddenly on Wednesday.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 6 p.m. at The First Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. Reynolds Smith and the Rev. Mike Grady officiating. Interment will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Wayne Memorial Park.
Waylon was born in Wayne County on July 28, 1958, to William Jennings Smith and Janice Smith Myers of Goldsboro. He was currently working with the family business, Jennings Transmission. Waylon was a graduate of Eastern Wayne High School.
He had a great love for music and had played gospel music his entire life. Waylon was currently playing with the gospel group Living Waters and had served as a musician for the gospel group Harvest Time and for Woods Grove Church. He also enjoyed fishing and had planned a trip the same day he passed away.
In addition to his parents, Waylon is survived by his son, Brandon Jennings Smith and wife, Danielle of Pikeville; his grandson, Dalton Jennings Smith; his stepfather, Kenneth Myers of Goldsboro; his brother, Shane Smith and wife, Jodie of Goldsboro; his maternal grandmother, Georgia M. Jackson of Goldsboro; his paternal grandmother, Edna Smith of Goldsboro; his special aunt, Gloria Johnson and husband, Eric of Goldsboro and her family, Lynne Fulghum, Michelle Braxton and Sheri Russell; and his nephew and nieces, Chad Smith, Ashley Smith, Savannah Head and DeAnna Head.
Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 5970 Fairview Road, 3 Fairview Plaza S-408, Charlotte, N.C., 28212.
The family will receive friends Saturday following the service in the vestibule of the First Pentecostal Holiness Church and other times at the home of his grandmother, where he has been living, 2711 E. Ash St., Goldsboro.
