Leasie Howell Glass, 82, formerly of Goldsboro, passed away Saturday at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Pam McGroarty in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Funeral services will be this evening at 6 p.m. from the chapel of Howell Funeral Home in Goldsboro. A private entombment will be held at Wayne Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Mrs. Glass is predeceased by her husband, James R. Glass; her sister, Lucille Howell Benson; and her brother, Richard B. Howell.
She is survived by her son, Joe A. McGroarty of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and her sister, Christine Howell Monds of Dublin, Ga. She is survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins whom she dearly loved.
Mrs. Glass and her husband developed the first motel in Goldsboro in 1949, the El Rancho Motel. They also owned and operated the Goodson Motel. After their retirement, they lived part-time in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and in Goldsboro. The last 10 years, Mrs. Glass lived with her son and daughter-in-law in Myrtle Beach.
The family will receive friends following the funeral service this evening and other times at the home of Linda Benson Fields, 3033 Stevens Mill Road in Grantham. The family is being served by Howell Funeral Home and Crematory in Goldsboro where condolences may be posted to www.howellfuneral.com.
