GREENSBORO -- Addie Bell Best, 69, of 105 Eleanor Place, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, Aug. 22 at Kindred Hospital.
Her life and service to God will be celebrated on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Greater St. John Free Will Baptist Church with the pastor, Dr. William Mitchell Jr., officiating. Burial will follow in the Wayne Memorial Park.
Visitation will be today from 2 until 4:30 p.m. at McIntyre Funeral Home Ministries of Goldsboro and at the church from 6 to 8 p.m. with the family present to receive friends during an inspirational wake from 7 to 8 p.m. At other times the family will receive friends at the home of her son, Reginald at 904 Seventh St., where they will also assemble in preparation for the funeral procession.
Addie Bell was born Oct. 1, 1938, to the late Bryant and Addie Best in Wayne County.
"Bell" attended Wayne County Public Schools and graduated in 1957 from Central High School. Following graduation, she moved to New York City and shortly afterwards moved to Bridgeport, Conn. where she worked as a secretary. She later moved to Boston where she obtained an associate of arts degree in Early Childhood Education from Roxbury Community College, a bachelor of arts degree from Wheelock College and a masters of education from Antioch University. She also obtained many other extraordinary achievements, though her greatest achievement was her fervent walk with Jesus Christ.
Bell taught for over 20 years and also was an assistant principal in the Boston Public Schools.
She opened her heart to foster care and also founded the "Bell's Developmental Learning Center." She later retired and returned to Goldsboro where she lived peacefully and enjoyed southern living. One of her favorite pastimes was preparing and hosting Thanksgiving dinner for her family and friends.
To cherish her legacy and memory, she leaves her sons, Reginald Best and Richard Best and a godson, J. R. Phillips, all of Goldsboro; brothers, James Lee Best of Newton Grove, John and wife Edith Best of Connecticut, Hoey and wife Burnice Best of Washington, D.C., Roosevelt and wife Anna Best and Thomas Best all of Maryland and Kevin and wife Valerie Best of Goldsboro; sisters, Hellena Jackson of Goldsboro, Nina and husband Nathaniel Mcrae of Maryland, Evelyn Jeffers of Georgia, Linda and husband Bobby Best of Florida, Joyce and husband Carl Marsh and Carmen and husband James Williams all of Goldsboro; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and close friends.
