Janet Marie LeBlanc Nation died Friday at her residence.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Brooks Avenue Church of Christ. Interment will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park.
A native of Louisiana, she was the first woman admitted into medical school at LSU in New Orleans where she met her former husband.
She worked for the public information office of the N.C. Employment Security Commission with 30 years of service.
Her interests included teaching and playing the piano, interior decorating and especially enjoyed antiques. Janet was a substitute teacher during her children's school years. She was an active member of Brooks Avenue Church of Christ.
Janet was a loving and caring mother and was actively involved with her two grandchildren who gave her much joy and happiness. She was a good-natured woman with a big heart and was loved by many. She will be truly missed by all who knew her.
Surviving are her daughter, Cynthia Nation Lowrey and husband, Rob, of Raleigh; sons, Christopher Nation and Roy Nation Jr. and wife, Michelle, of Goldsboro, N.C.; and grandchildren, Robbie Nation Lowrey and Jessica Nation Lowrey of Raleigh.
The family will receive friends at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, Saint Mary's Street, Raleigh, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
