BISHOP THURMAN R. LOFTON
Died Aug. 11, 2008
SMITHFIELD -- Bishop Thurman Ruth Lofton, 60, 113 N. 7th St., passed away Monday at Wilson Medical Center.
Services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at L. N. Forbes Original Free Will Baptist Tabernacle, 1800 Lane St. Ext. Bishop MacDonald Moses, General Bishop of Churches of Christ-Disciples of Christ, will officiate with Bishop John Armstrong, Eulogist. Interment will follow in the Hamilton Burial Garden, Lane St. Ext.
Loving memories of Bishop Lofton are cherished by his wife, Elder Betty Jones Lofton of the home; four sons, Rev. Dr. Tony Jones and Sakina of Raleigh, Michael Jones and Shelia of Sharpsburg, Elder Thurman Lofton and Keisha of Stafford, Va., and Minister Savalas Lofton and Tracy EL Paso, Texas; four daughters, Amanda Jones of Lucama, Sulene Deloatch and Lamont of Stockbridge, Ga., Minister Bertrille Williams and Eric of knightdale, and Nicole Lofton of Morrow, Ga.; 17 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; four brothers, Elder Donald Loftin and Evangelist, Essie, Willie Lofton Jr., Ruby, Roney Lofton and Catha, and Dwayne Lofton, all of Wilson; six sisters, Ms. Dorothy Lofton of Brooklyn, N.Y., Mrs. Dora Williams and Johnson, Sharpsburg, Prophetess Lillian Evans, Ms. Hattie Farmer both of Wilson; Minister Tina Blount of Raleigh, and Ms. Barbara Rountree of Durham; two uncles, James Lofton of Goldsboro and Rudolph Lofton of Raleigh; a host of other special relatives and friends.
A viewing of Bishop Lofton will take place Friday from 2-5 pm at Hamilton Funeral Chapel, 726 Tarboro St. S.W. He will lie-in-state from 6 until 7 p.m. at St. Paul Church of Christ, Highway 117 S., Black Creek, N.C. with the family present from 7 until 8 p.m. to receive friends. All other times the family will receive friends at the residence where they will also assemble one hour prior to the service.
