Mr. Winfield "Jimmie" Clemons Williams, 86, 302 Oleander Avenue, went to be with his maker on Saturday.
Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday at 11 a.m. at the First African Baptist Church, 803 Harris Street, Goldsboro with the Rev. Louis Leigh officiating. Burial will following at Wayne Memorial Park Cemetery, 2925 U.S. Highway 117 S. A viewing will be held on Wednesday from 1 to 6 p.m. at Hamilton Funeral Home Chapel.
Jimmie was born to his loving and nurturing parents, the late Frank and Hettie Gray Williams, in Rocky Mount on Aug. 1, 1922.
He attended Booker T. Washington High School in Rocky Mount and matriculated to the originally known A & M college, now known as A & T University. He served in the United States Army from 1943 to 1946. After his military service, he moved to Brooklyn, N.Y. where he lived for 32 years and worked as a postal clerk and later as a postal inspector.
Jimmie was a great lover of Jazz; playing jazz on his saxophone was just as important to him as his job. After retiring, he moved to Goldsboro and joined First African Baptist Church where he attended regularly.
Mr. Williams was preceded in death by his three sisters, and his wife, Gladys Gibbs Williams.
He leaves to cherish his memory, a step-son, Benjamin McDonald of Goldsboro; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Williams of Goldsboro and Rose Nicklos of Chicago, Ill.; one brother-in-law, James Hinnant of Goldsboro, and nieces and nephews, including "Pritchard," among other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends on Thursday at First African Baptist Church from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service.
