CLAIRE L. GARDNER
July 15, 1914-July 29, 2008
Claire was born and reared in Boston, Mass., and moved to Goldsboro in 1993 to be near her only daughter, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Throughout her life she became a caregiver for many family members and put aside her own needs to tend to theirs. In her final years, when she was in need of care herself, she was loved and nurtured by many who fondly referred to her as "Grandma Claire."
Her smile and beautiful presence brightened many a day and she will be greatly missed. Claire was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Gardner, and two sisters, Marie McCarthy and Madeline Mace. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Wolfe and husband, Bruce, of Goldsboro; her grandson, Craig Wolfe and his wife, Carla; and her granddaughter Bethanne Castrati. She also leaves five great-grandchildren, Anthony, Justin and Ryan Castrati, Mia and Monica Wolfe as well as the Mace family of Randolph, Mass.
A celebration of life Mass will be held at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church in Goldsboro on Thursday at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that you show an act of kindness to someone in need in Claire's memory.
Arrangements are being handled by Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home and Crematory of Goldsboro and online condolences may be sent through www.shumate-faulk.com.
