HOPEWELL, Va. -- Verna Davis Young, 5749 Fox Maple Terrace, Petersburg, Va., went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday at John Randolph Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Rockford Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, 5782 Rockford Church Road, Seven Springs, with the Apostle D.L. McIntyre officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Matthew's Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery, LaGrange. A viewing will be held at the McIntyre Funeral Home Ministries, 900 S. George St., on Friday from 2 until 7 p.m. The family will be present to receive friends from 6 until 7 p.m.
She was a native of North Carolina and the daughter of the late Charlie and Dorothy Maye. She was preceded in death by a son, Craig Davis, and a brother, Darryl Maye.
Verna was a 1966 graduate of Frink High School in LaGrange. She was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church of Petersburg, Va. She was employed at the Department of Defense at Fort Lee Army Base for 20 years.
Verna leaves to cherish precious memories her husband, Larry Young; one son, Jerome Davis; two sisters, Gladys "Robert" Mewborn of LaGrange and Deon Maye Snow Hill; three brothers, Norman "Ruth" Maye of LaGrange, Linwood "Sandra" Maye of Manteca, Calif., and Charles "Anita" Maye of Kinston.
