MILDRED S. TENUTA
Died July 9, 2008
WILMINGTON -- Mildred S. Tenuta, died Wednesday at her residence.
A funeral service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church with the Rev. Clyde Denny officiating. Entombment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.
She was born in Fremont, daughter of the late Thomas E. Sauls and Lucretia Edmundson Sauls, and was preceded in death by her husband of over 40 years, George Tenuta Sr.
Mrs. Tenuta retired from teaching after 35 years of service in the New Hanover and Brunswick County school systems. She was a graduate of Western Carolina College and earned her master's of education from East Carolina Teacher's College. Following her retirement, she was employed with Azalea Insurance Agency in Wilmington.
Mrs. Tenuta was a lifelong member of Grace United Methodist Church, and a member of Hanover Seaside Club and the Cape Fear Country Club. She was an avid bridge player.
Surviving are two children, George A. Tenuta Jr. and wife, Mary, of Wilmington, and Mary Tenuta Tyler and husband, Gary of Rocky Point, N.C.; three grandchildren, William Paul Starling, IV and wife Michele, of Jacksonville, N.C., Krissy Starling Horrell and husband Ben, of Wilmington, and Charlene Woodlief and husband Neil, of Garner, N.C.; four great-grandchildren, Morgan, McKenna, and Marla Starling, and Bishop Horrell; a sister, Lucretia Hardison, of Goldsboro; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Friday from 6 until 8 p.m. at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Grace United Methodist Church Building Fund, 401 Grace St., Wilmington, N.C., 28401, or a charity of one's choice.
