ELIZABETH R. HOWARD
May 31, 1925-June 11, 2008
Elizabeth Rouse Howard, 83, 105 Burnham Place, Goldsboro, formerly of Kinston, N.C., passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, June 11, 2008, at Wayne Memorial Hospital with her loving daughter at her side, after suffering a stroke four days earlier.
A celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church, 1101 E. Ash St., Goldsboro, with the Rev. Drew Clerk and the Rev. Ryan Rasmussen officiating.
Mrs. Howard, born May 31, 1925, was a native of Kinston and the daughter of the late Kirby and Ezzie Grady Rouse of Kinston.
She was also preceded in death by her two brothers, James "J.B." and Allen, and her sister, Mary.
She graduated from Grainger High School in Kinston.
She married William E. "Bill" Howard May 27, 1956, and they recently celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary. The Howards resided in Hampton and Newport News, Va., from 1956 to 1969, then moved to Kinston in 1969, and finally moved to Goldsboro in 2006 to be closer to their children and grandchildren.
The family will receive friends in Kinston Thursday, June 12, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the church parlor of First Presbyterian Church.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
A private burial was held earlier Friday at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Kinston.
She is survived by her loving husband, William E. "Bill" Howard of the home; her son, William Allen "Bill" Howard of Raleigh and his wife, Debbie, and their two daughters, Caroline and Katherine of Raleigh; and her daughter, Mary Howard Bartlett and her husband, Gary, and their son, Will Bartlett of Goldsboro.
She is also survived by her lifelong friend, Mary Lena Byrd Price of Wilmington.
She was a devoted wife, mother and especially grandmother. Her happiest moments were spending time with her grandchildren. She was blessed with remarkable health and energy her entire life.
The family requests that memorials be made to First Presbyterian Church (Women's Circle for Legos) in Goldsboro, Kitty Askins Hospice Center Expansion Fund in Goldsboro or to the charity of one's choice.
