BENNIE SMITH

Mr. Bennie Smith Sr., 90, lovingly known by his family and church friends as "Deacon," of 810 Pittman St., Goldsboro, died on Thursday, May 22, 200, at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
He leaves to cherish his loving memory three sons, the Rev. Bennie Smith Jr. and wife, Brenda, Alton E. Smith, Joseph M. Smith and wife, Christine; four daughters, Sarah E. Best and husband, Gordon, Doris M. Allen, Edna L. Smith and Hilda P. Smith; one brother, John Frank Smith and wife, Cornelia; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
The funeral will be held on Monday, May 26, 2008, at 11 a.m. from the Bear Creek Association Headquarters Building, 1800 S. Slocumb St., Goldsboro, N.C., with Bishop Alton A. Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Old Mill Cemetery, 3618 Central Heights Road, Goldsboro, N.C. A viewing will be conducted today, May 25, 2008, from 1 to 7 p.m. at Hamilton Funeral Chapel, 423 S. James St. Goldsboro, N.C. Also, a wake will be held today, May 25, 2008, at Hamilton Funeral Chapel from 6 to 7: p.m., with the family in attendance to receive other family members and friends.
At other times, the family will receive friends and other family members at the home of Mr. Alton Smith located at 810 Pittman St., Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.
