C.C. IVEY JR.

MOUNT OLIVE -- Charles Cresson "C.C." Ivey Jr., 80, went to be with his Lord Monday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be held at 7 Wednesday evening at the chapel of Tyndall Funeral Home in Mount Olive with the Rev. Lynwood Boyette, the Rev. Mark Stephens and the Rev. Jerry Mitchell officiating.
C.C. was born in Duplin County and was a lifelong resident of the Summerlins Crossroads community. He was the son of the late C. Cresson and Eunice Vause Ivey. C.C. was the loving husband of 56 years of the late Elnora Rouse Ivey. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Major Foy Ivey Sr.
He graduated from Kenansville High School in the class of 1943 and was active in keeping this class of friends together through numerous reunions over the years.
He served in World War II in the United States Navy in the south Pacific on the U.S.S. Bowditch. C.C. was retired farmer and tobacco warehouseman, associated for more than 60 years with tobacco markets in Farmville, Wallace and Goldsboro. A veracious lover of family history, he shared his knowledge of family trees and events with many. He was a true archivist of local history.
A lifelong member of Bethel United Methodist Church, he has served as superintendent, administrative council chair, Sunday school teacher and lay leader/speaker. C.C. also served on the board of directors of Tri-County Electric Membership Cooperatives for 31 years, serving as vice president of the board for a number of years.
He is survived by his daughter, Catherine I. Fonvielle and her husband, John; his sons, Charles C. III and G. Rouse and his wife, Cindy, of Mount Olive; five grandchildren, John Nathan Fonvielle III and his wife, Amanda, of Wallace, Thomas I. Fonvielle of Boone, John Daniel Ivey and his wife, Rebekah, of Mount Olive, Abbie C. Ivey of Greensboro and her fiancé, Alan Williams, and Julie R. Ivey of Mount Olive; one great-grandchild, Elizabeth Ivey Fonvielle of Wallace; and a host of loving nephews and nieces. He is also survived by his Kitty Askins Hospice family, who has served him compassionately in his "home away from home" for the last 18 months.
Visitation with the family will follow immediately after the service. Graveside services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Swinson-Ivey Cemetery near the homeplace.
