Margaret Esther Sasser Powell, 73, went to be with the Lord on Monday.
Mrs. Powell was born in Wayne County to the late William Albert Sasser and Minnie Killette Sasser Overton. She had worked with Belk in downtown Goldsboro and also with Americal Corporation. Mrs. Powell was an active member of Belfast Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Steve Jones and Dr. Preston Heath officiating. Interment will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park with the Rev. Eddie McKeel officiating.
Mrs. Powell is survived by her husband of 53 years, John D. Powell; her son, John D. Powell II of Hendersonville; her daughters, Lovie Esther McKeel and husband, the Rev. Eddie McKeel, of Goldsboro, Christia "Christy" Powell Smith and husband, Richard D. Smith, of Sanford; her grandchildren, Allen D. McKeel, Lindsey McKeel, David Powell, Andrew Powell and Miles Smith; her sisters, Catherine Sykes of Goldsboro, Joyce Craft and husband, Fred, of Pikeville, Alice Hartley and husband, Pete, of Princeton; her brother, Charles Sasser and wife, Debbie, of Woodstock, Ga.; her sister-in-law, Harlene Sasser of Fremont; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, David Sasser and Tommy Sasser; and her sisters, Loretta Sasser, Hazel Seymour and Rachel Martin.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 5216 Glen Allen, Va. 23058, the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 1132, Fairfax, Va. 22038-1132 or to Belfast Pentecostal Holiness Church, 3093 U.S. 117 North Highway, Goldsboro, N.C. 27530.
The family will receive friends Thursday following the service at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at her home, 101 Stoney Run Drive, Goldsboro.
