Marvin Joseph Barfield, 82, went peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday at his home surrounded by his family.

Born in Le-noir County, he was the son of the late Edgar and Essie Barfield; brother of the late Melvin Barfield, and sisters, Effie Heath, Glynnie Wiggins, Josie Gibbs, Joan Hill and Mary Dixon. Mr. Barfield was a retired butcher with the Frosty Morn Company and a member of Fields Chapel Holiness Church.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 4 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home Chapel with Bishop Warren H. Barfield and the Rev. Randall A. Barfield officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.

Mr. Barfield is survived by his wife, Geraldine Mason Barfield; sons, Kenneth Barfield of Kinston, Larry Barfield and wife, Sonia, of Kinston, Joe Hemby and wife, Pam, of Vanceboro; stepsons, Michael Evans and wife, Jean, of Rosewood, Randy Evans and wife, Eleanor, of Goldsboro; daughters, Bonnie McLawhorn of Kinston, Joyce Ann Lee and husband, James, of Kinston, Ruby Kay Phillips of Fuquay-Varina, Lynette Ipock and husband, Curt, of LaGrange, Marilyn Burns and husband, Jerry, of Swansboro; stepdaughters, Sheila Esquivel of Goldsboro, Gail Scarborough and husband, Jody, of Princeton; brothers, Randall Barfield and wife, Joanne, of Goldsboro, Warren "Sam" Barfield and wife, Pat, of Autryville, Eddie Lee Barfield and wife, Shirley, of Fayetteville, Timmy Barfield and wife, Carol, of Snow Hill; sisters, Lucille Smith of Goldsboro, Judy Peedin and husband, Keith, of Goldsboro; 25 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a special sister-in-law and caregiver, Viola "Poochie" Pate of Kinston.

Family members will greet friends Wednesday night from 7 to 9 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home and at other times will be at the home.
