FRANK R. SMITH

Franklin Roosevelt Smith, 76, died Tuesday at Wayne Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
He was born in Black Creek, to the late Dr. Anderson Jones and Bettie Allen Smith. Following graduation from Lee Woodard High School, he attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and graduated from Guilford College in 1957.
From college he was with Pilot Life Insurance until joining the North Carolina Department of Revenue. He retired in 1990 after serving as the Revenue Office Manager in Goldsboro with 29 years of service.
Funeral will be noon Friday at Wilson Memorial Service, 2811 Fieldstream Drive, Wilson. Interment will be in Maplewood Cemetery, Wilson.
Surviving is his wife, Lena Brame Pittman Smith; daughter, Ellen Grace Brame Garvin and husband, William C. Garvin, of Hopewell, Va.; son, David A. Smith and wife, Madeleine, of Newport; grandson, Trey Anderson Smith of Newport; sister, Edna Smith Stem and husband, Jasper, of Wilson; brothers, Dr. Claude A. Smith and wife, Regina, of Winston-Salem, Anderson Jones Jr., of Greenville, S.C., John A. Smith and wife, Valeria, of Chapin, S.C.
The family will be at Wilson Memorial Service, Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
