Mother Annie Laurena "Rene" Crawford Uzzell, 69, of 1012 Slaughter St., with her children at her bedside, peacefully bid this world goodbye and, in a moment in the twinkling of an eye, exchanged this mortal for immortal on Saturday afternoon at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
She was a stalwart and dutiful member of New Stoney Hill United Holy Church, where she served as senior choir president, Sunday school teacher, on the Mother's Board and countless other capacities. Her service to her Lord and mankind transcended beyond the walls of the church. She touched the lives of the disadvantaged, the homeless and the hopeless by providing meals, clothing and sound advice with a sense of humor and saintly decorum.
Her life, legacy and memory will be eulogized and celebrated in a hand clapping, toe tapping, foot stomping Holy Ghost filled homegoing service Thursday at 1 p.m. The sound of Pentecost will fill the air as the saints turn their mourning into dancing on the hardwood floors of the New Stoney Hill United Holy Church. Her pastor and beloved comrade, Dr. Howard Eugene McNair will officiate. Her mortal frame will be laid to rest in the Old Mill Cemetery.
Sacred and precious memories shall remain vivid and alive in the chambers of the hearts of her 100 years and 10 months old mother, for whom she was the primary care giver, the Rev. Annie Bell Crawford of the home; daughter, Michelle and husband, Quinton, of Fredericksburg, Va.; sons, Darryle and wife, Regina, of Stockbridge, Ga., Joey and wife, Sharon, of Warner Robbins, Ga., Alpheus and wife, Tammy, of Clemmons, N.C.; sisters, Minnie Gattis and Thomasina McGraw, both of Philadelphia, Pa.; 11 grandchildren including Quantosha Woodard and husband, Byron, whom she reared; five great-grandchildren.
The visitation will be held Wednesday from 2 until 6 p.m. at the McIntyre Funeral Home Ministries, Goldsboro. The family will receive friends at the residence.
