TALMADGE 'PETE' BARNETT

Talmadge Lorenzo "Pete" Barnett, 72, of 100 Thomick Place, succumbed to the silent halls of death on Tuesday at Britthaven of Goldsboro. A native of Forsyth County, N.C., Mr. Barnett was the son of the late Robert and Thelma Moore Barnett.
Mr. Barnett, a stalwart member of the St. Mark Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ, served as a member of the St. Mark Political Awareness Committee and a member of the men's fellowship.
He was a lifetime member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and dedicated hours of service to the Beta Omicron Lambda Chapter in Goldsboro.
He matriculated and graduated from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in Greensboro, N.C. (A&T), and retired as a prison administrator for the N.C. Department of Corrections. He also served on the executive committee of the Wayne County Democrats.
Sacred memories shall linger in the hearts of his wife, Lillie Simmons Barnett of the home; three sons, Talmadge Barnett Jr. of Lumberton, N.C., Rodney Darryl Barnett of Dayton, Ohio, Jackie Gentry of Goldsboro; two daughters, Shelia Shaw of Tarboro, N.C., Koretta Kennon of Goldsboro; three grandchildren; and a host of relatives, church family, fraternity brothers and many friends.
His life and legacy will be celebrated at noon on Saturday at St. Mark Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ, 700 W. Ash St., with the Bishop Alton Smith officiating. Interment will follow at the Wayne Memorial Park.
His remains shall lie in repose tomorrow from 2:30 until 5 p.m. in the parlor of McIntyre Funeral Home, 900 S. George St., and will be placed at St. Mark Church of Christ from 6:30 until 8 p.m. for an inspirational wake.
