FAISON -- Funeral services for Bessie Ashford, 71, of 310 Elden Thornton Road, will be held Sunday at 5 p.m. from the Greater Six Run Baptist Church, Turkey, with Bishop Zebedee Sheppard officiating. Burial will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Clinton.
Mrs. Ashford died Wednesday at SunBridge Nursing Center. She is the daughter of the late Oscar and Lula Sloan Carroll.
She is survived by her husband, Herman Ashford; four sons, Eddie Ashford and wife, Lisa, of Kenner, the Rev. Perry Ashford and wife, Vonder, of Goldsboro, Johnnie Ashford of Apex, Matthew Ashford and wife, Carla, of Clinton; two brothers, Frank Carroll of Clinton and Henry Carroll of Greensboro; four sisters, Emma Carroll and Edna Carroll, both of Clinton, Janie Bell of Faison, Evelyn Davis of New York; and seven grandchildren.
Viewing will be held Saturday from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Garris Funeral Home Chapel and the family will be present from 5 to 6 p.m. to receive friends.
At other times the family will receive friends at the home of the Rev. Perry and Vonder Ashford, 570 U.S. Highway 13 South, Goldsboro.
