CAROLYN S. GIBSON

LAURINBURG -- Carolyn Smith Gibson, 87, of Scotia Village and formerly of Gibson, died Tuesday at Scotia Village.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at the Gibson United Methodist Church officiated by the Rev. Tom Miller. Burial will follow in Pine Crest Cemetery.

She is survived by three daughters, Josephine Fisher of Surf City, Margie Whitlock of Gibson and Anne Tang of Marietta, Ga.; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Nelson Gibson.

Born in Goldsboro, N.C., she was the daughter of the late R. Jack and Josephine Baldwin Smith. Carolyn graduated from Greensboro College in 1941.

She was the oldest active member of Gibson United Methodist Church. Carolyn taught Sunday school, was a member of the adult Sunday school class and was active in the Women of the Church where she held various offices.

She served on the board of Scotland County Library and as council woman in Gibson where she also worked at the polls during elections. Carolyn served on the Gibson Community Development Association acting as treasurer and was a patron of the Arts and education.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Morris Morgan Room, Scotia Village.
