JOSEPH F. BANNON

Staff Sgt. Joseph "Joe" Francis Bannon, U.S. Air Force Ret., 76, of 104 Sumpter Drive, died Thursday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Joe was born in Pittston, Pa., to the late Frank Bannon and Mary Finneran Bannon. He was a member of St. Mary Roman Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. After retiring from the U.S. Air Force, Joe was employed in management with King's Department Store and Eckerd Drugs. He had also worked in security at Wayne Memorial Hospital and volunteered as a golf cart driver at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. Tom Norris, O.S.F.S. officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery with full military honors.
Mr. Bannon is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mary Granahan Bannon; his daughters, Maureen Peart and husband, Jeff, of Mitchell, S.D., Jacqui Whitmire and husband, Tim, Joanne Bannon and Sharon Bannon, all of Goldsboro; his brother, James Bannon of Pittston, Pa.; his grandchildren, Jennifer Corkern and husband, Matt, of Indian Town, Fla., Amy Plante of Groton, Conn., Emily Peart of Mitchell, S.D., Daniel Whitmire of Charlotte and Bradley Whitmire of Goldsboro; and his great-grandchildren, Lauren, Catie and Allison Corkern, all of Indian Town, Fla., Tyler and Kylie Plante, both of Groton, Conn.
There will be a wake service at 7 p.m. Friday at Seymour Funeral Home and the family will receive friends following the service. At other times the family will receive friends in their home.
