FREMONT -- Layne Michael Knopick, 11, died suddenly on Friday from injuries sustained in an automobile accident while skateboarding.
Layne was born in Wayne County on Sept. 23, 1996, to Scott Knopick and Xan Benton Knopick. He was a student at Norwayne Middle School, where he was in the sixth grade. Layne was a member of the Boy Scouts of America Troop 12 in Fremont. He attended Daniels Memorial United Methodist Church, where he was an acolyte and a member of the Methodist Youth Fellowship. Layne was an avid skateboarder, and had a great love for music and playing video games.
Funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Glenn Everett officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery in Fremont.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his sister and brother, whom he loved dearly, Skylar Ashlyn Knopick and Braeden Scott Knopick; his maternal grandmother, Marie Fulghum Benton of Goldsboro; his aunts and uncles, Ernie and Beverly Vinson and Mike and Pam Benton, all of Goldsboro; and his cousins, Brittany Vinson and Brandon Vinson.
Layne was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Richard Paul Benton of Goldsboro; his paternal grandmother, Sue Best Knopick of Warren, Pa.; his maternal great-grandparents, Ewell and Bobbie Hooks Fulghum of Fremont and Luby and Gladys Benton of Goldsboro; and his paternal great-grandparents, Robert and Dorothy Best of Silvercreek, N.Y., and George and Caroline Knopick of Ambridge, Pa.
The family will receive friends Monday from 6- 8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at 6850 U.S. Hwy. 117 North, Fremont.
