John Louis "J.L." Eason Jr., 83, of 668 Weaver Road, died Tuesday evening at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
J.L. was born in Duplin County to the late John Louis Eason Jr. and Gatsey Smith Eason. He was retired from Carolina Power and Light Company. J.L. served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a faithful member of Falling Creek United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be Friday at 3 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Craig Langston officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in LaGrange.
J.L. is survived by his wife of 59 years, Cora Fields Eason; his sons, John L. Eason III and Gary Wesley Eason and wife, Christina, all of Goldsboro; his grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth Eason and fiancée, Brian Kooyman, of Columbia, S.C. and Patrick Storm Eason of Goldsboro; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Pauline Eason of Goldsboro and Margaret Cunningham of LaGrange; and his brother-in-law, George Fields and wife, Peggy, of Kitty Hawk.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, William Eason and Spicer Eason; and his sister, Etta Belle Mozingo.
Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Falling Creek United Methodist Church Building Fund, 299 Falling Creek Church Road, Goldsboro, N.C. 27530.
The family will receive friends Friday from 1:30 until 3 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and at other times at the home.
