GRETCHEN ASKEW EVANS
LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- Gretchen Askew Evans, formerly of the Rosewood Community, died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2007, at the Nathan Adelson Hospice Center surrounded by her family. She was born in Wayne County to the late Alvin R. Askew and Irene Best Askew. Gretchen was a graduate of East Carolina University and was a school teacher for many years, where she touched many children's hearts.
A service to celebrate her life will be held on Friday, Nov. 9, 2007, at 11 a.m. in Goldsboro, N.C., at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel with her nephew, the Rev. Rex Evans officiating. The family will greet friends following that service at the funeral home.
Gretchen is survived by her husband, Percy F. Evans of the home; her son, Joey Darwin "J.D." Evans and his wife, Michele, of Las Vegas, Nev.; her grandchildren, Ashley, Ryan, Joe and Jack; her sister, Hilda Witherington and husband, Wilbur, of Goldsboro; and her brother, George Askew and wife, Charlotte, of Evergreen, Ala. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Leslie R. "Red" Thompson of Goldsboro; her sister-in-law, Jean S. Askew of Goldsboro; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Edna Thompson; and her brother, Melvin Askew.
