WILBERT J. BATTEN SR.

RICHMOND, Va. -- Wilbert Jerome Batten Sr., 72, died suddenly Sunday. He was retired from Michael's Arts and Crafts after 12 years of service, retiring as director of district development and was in retail management for over 50 years.
He is survived by his wife, Blanche LaRue Killette Batten; son, Steve J. Batten; daughter, Kathryn B. Culpin and husband, William, both of Midlothian; son, Wilbert "Jerry" Jerome Batten Jr., and wife, Sherri, of Mechanicsville; two brothers, Morris H. Batten and wife, Margie, of Oxford, N.C., and M. Leroy Batten and wife, Cathy, of Goldsboro, N.C.; three sisters, Edna Mae Whaley and husband, Ken, of Goldsboro, N.C., Mary Pate and husband, Junior, of Pikeville, N.C., and Myrtle Munford and husband, Francis, of Kenly, N.C.; four grandchildren, Karrington LaRue Culpin, Skylar Brooke Batten, Christian Batten and Elisabeth Mariah Batten.
Mr. Batten was a former member of the Lions Club and was dedicated to God, his wife and family, He will be missed by all of those whose lives he touched.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Road. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Grove Avenue Baptist Church. Interment will be in Westhampton Memorial Park.
