MOUNT OLIVE -- Joseph Wesley "Swinge" Kelly, 83, of the Red Hill community, died Friday at SunBridge Care Center.
Graveside services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Kelly Family Cemetery near the residence. The Rev. Shelton Justice will be officiating.
Friends and family will be received at the residence at 970 Red Hill Road, Mount Olive.
One of seven children born to the late John "Chub" Kelly and Maude Goodson Kelly, he was a life-long member of the Alum Springs Missionary Baptist Church. He had been a farmer, a timber buyer, building contractor/developer, and was of an inventive nature. A son, John William "Billy" Kelly, four of his brothers and his sister preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife, Jane Price Kelly of the home; two daughters and a son-in-law, Mary Jo K. and Charles Pridgen of Mount Olive, and Jackie K. Darden of Raleigh; a son, Richard Kelly of Wilson; two stepdaughters and a stepson-in-law, Emily G. and Ronnie Malpass of Seven Springs, and Cynthia Grady of Mount Olive; a brother, George Kelly of Mount Olive; two grandchildren, Will Darden and Katie Darden, both of Raleigh; three stepgrandchildren, Brandon Malpass of Seven Springs, Christy Bennett of Faison, and Ronda Jackson of Spivey's Corner; four step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Flowers are welcome, or memorial gifts may be made to Alum Springs Church, c/o Wayland Southerland, treas., 645 Bennett's Bridge Road, Mount Olive, N.C. 28365.
The Kelly family wishes to acknowledge SunBridge Care Center, its physicians and staff, for the outstanding care shown their loved one during his nine years of residence there.
