Harry W. Carnes, 86, of 105 Sable Drive, died Thursday evening at Britthaven Nursing Home in Smithfield.

Woodrow was born in Lucketts, Va., to the late Arthur and Bessie Newton Carnes. He was a Federal Civilian employee of the U.S. Air Force, retiring in 1973 after 33 years of service. Woodrow was a veteran of World War II and a Pearl Harbor survivor. He also served in the U.S. Air Force Reserve from April 27, 1957, to Jan. 3, 1972.

Prior to moving to Goldsboro, he was a member of Forest Memorial United Methodist Church in Forestville, Md. After moving to Goldsboro, he became a member of St. Joseph United Methodist Church in Pikeville.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Bill Creech officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

Woodrow is survived by his wife of 61 years, Eloise V. Carnes; his son, Kenneth W. Carnes of Pikeville; his brother, Paul W. Carnes of LaPlata, Md.; two nephews and two nieces.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to St. Joseph United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 43, Pikeville, N.C. 27863.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at his residence.
