MARGARET B. FUTCH

Margaret B. Futch, age 66, passed away Saturday from COPD, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. She was diagnosed with this lung disease in 1999, and together with her family fought to live her life to the fullest in spite of this disease. She died at Duke University Hospital while being evaluated for a lung transplant.

Mrs. Futch was known as "Marge" to her friends and "Sis" to her extended family. She married Thurman C. "T.C." Futch, an Air Force Captain, in 1966 in Wheaton, Ill. In 1971, Captain and Mrs. Futch were stationed at Seymour Johnson A.F.B. in Goldsboro. Marge worked as a registered nurse at Wayne Memorial Hospital and Head Start during the 1970s. In the 1980s, she co-owned a ceramic shop called M's Make N Take in Goldsboro, and also worked for Wayne Community College with the adult literacy program and later the nursing program. After that time, she used her artistic skills to make ceramics and stoneware, as well as in decorative painting.

Mrs. Futch is survived by her husband, T.C. Futch, who works for Ryder Truck Rental in Goldsboro. She is also survived by her two children, Tracy Futch of Durham, N.C. and Brian Futch of Seattle, Wash. She also has two grandchildren. She is survived by her brother, Raymond Bollweg of Canton, Minn., and her sister, Mary Anne Davis of Gainesville, Fla.

The family will be receiving friends Friday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home of Goldsboro.
