DORIS 'DOT' TURNER

Sept. 2, 1924-Aug. 1, 2007

At age 82, Dot Hood Turner went to be with our Lord. An active member of the First Baptist Church of Goldsboro, she served as a deacon, director of Sunday school, chairman of Budget and Finance Committee and was a member of the Silver Singers Choir and Silver Bells Choir.

For 24 years, the Goldsboro Chamber of Commerce employed Dot as a secretary/assistant manager. For 10 years, she was employed by Wayne United Way as executive director.

One of Dot's greatest joys was service to her community, a joy which she shared by service as past-president of Goldsboro Jay-C-Ettes, as a member of the board of directors at WAGES and past-president/board of directors of United Church Ministries. She organized the Goldsboro Christmas Parade for many years and was the Goldsboro Centennial Queen in 1947.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifton Scott and Ruby Harris and late husband, William Graham "Billy" Hood Jr. She is survived by a loving family, her husband, friend and caregiver, Arthur "Bo" Turner; daughter, Gayle Hood Davis and husband, Jeff, of Goldsboro; sons, William Graham Hood III and wife, Vickie O'Tuel Hood, of Warsaw, Arthur "Chip" Turner and wife, Allison Owens Turner, of Tarboro, and John Turner of Nags Head; grandchildren, Suzanne Mills and husband, Keith, of Gastonia, Angela Vestal and husband, Ellis, of Wilmington, Christopher Hood and wife, Lisa, of Kenansville, Brittany Turner of Tarboro, Samantha Davis of Goldsboro, Kelsey and Brooke Owens of Tarboro; and seven great-grandchildren. Her two brothers, Clifton Scott Harris Jr. and Linwood Harris of Virginia; and a sister, Agnes Manos of Virginia, also survive her.

Visitation will be held at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home on Saturday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. with funeral services held on Sunday at 2 p.m. from First Baptist Church of Goldsboro followed by burial at Willow-Dale Cemetery. Dr. Glenn Phillips Jr. will be officiating.
