JOYCE T. ANDREWS

Aug. 9, 1932-July 25, 2007

FAISON -- Joyce Tew Andrews, 74, wife of J. E. Andrews Jr. died on Wednes-day, at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh. Her death came on the couple's 58th wedding anniversary.

Born in Harnett County, she was the daughter of the W. Colon Tew and Ruth Strickland Tew. In her younger years, she was a member of Faison Baptist Church, then later, the Miller's Chapel Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church where she was very involved in youth activities. In her retirement years, she returned her membership to Faison Baptist Church.

She and her husband operated Andrews IGA in Faison for many years; then they operated a beach property motel, Sea Vista. Later, she became employed with Mount Olive College, where she served as student activities director and was dormitory resident' adviser and director of the men's dormitory.

Her nurturing spirit enabled her to make the most out of those who had the least. She possessed many artistic talents and directed many wedding ceremonies. Her wedding gift to many brides was her wedding veils, which she hand made from beads.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. from the chapel of Tyndall Funeral Home in Mount Olive, with the Rev. J. Paul Rose and the Rev. Condary Ellis officiating. Interment will be in Wayne Memorial Park.

She is survived by her husband, J. E. Andrews Jr.; a son, James E. "Jamie" Andrews III of Faison; two daughters, Melinda A. Malpass and husband, Dennis, of Faison, and Faith A. Cameron and husband, Richard, of the home; two grandsons, Ricky Daniel Cameron and Andy Scott Cameron, also of the home; a special daughter, Betty Ann "Toy" Goodwin of Faison; and two sisters, Faye Martin of Wallace and Lynn Holland of Bowdens. A beloved canine champion, "Little Bit", also survives.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Killette; a brother, W. C. Tew; and a brother-in-law whom she helped to rear, Donald F. Andrews.

Visitation will be this evening from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home, and at other times the family will be at the residence at 717 Cherry St. in Faison.

Flowers are welcome, or memorial gifts are suggested to be made to Children In Action, c/o Faison Baptist Church, P.O. Box 280, Faison, N.C. 28341.
