DOROTHY J. MASSEY

EUREKA -- Dorothy Jackson Massey, 302 N. Church St., surrounded by her loving family, went to be with the Lord, Monday, July 23, 2007, at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

A service to celebrate and remember her life will be held Wednesday, July 25, 2007 at 2 p.m. from Eureka United Methodist Church, 128 N. Church St., Eureka. Interment will follow in the Eureka Cemetery. The Rev. Edward Drew and the Rev. David Hollowell will officiate.

Mrs. Massey will lie in repose at Eureka United Methodist Church, 128 N. Church St., Eureka, from 5 p.m. Tuesday until the time of the funeral service and the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. in the fellowship hall Tuesday, July 24, 2007 at Eureka United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her husband for 61 years, the Rev. Gerald Rudolph Massey; a daughter, Delores Massey Cobb and husband, Charles S. Cobb, of Cary; two sons, Louis Carlisle Massey and wife, Lu Chase Massey, of Eureka and Gerald Rudolph Massey Jr. and wife, Sharon Sleigh Massey, of Atlanta, Ga.; sisters, Emily Lou Hudson of Wilmington and Jamie Carter of Jacksonville; grandchildren, Trey Massey and wife, Stacy, Chris Massey and wife, Sandy, Allison Massey Ambler and husband, George, Ryan S. Lane and wife, Becky Jo, Jonathan M. Lane and wife, Jennifer, Thomas Chase Massey and Carlisle Jackson Massey; nine great-grandchildren, Kayleigh Massey, Meredith Massey, Will Massey, Alex Massey, Marshall Massey, Victoria Lane, Bridgette Lane and Michael Lane.

Mrs. Massey was born May 21, 1927 in Sampson County to the late Dorothy Crumpler Jackson and Carlisle David Jackson. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Charles Jackson, David Jackson, Carlisle Jackson Jr., and Franklin Jackson; sister, Geraldine Jackson McCullen; and a grandson, William Hooks Lane III.

Mrs. Massey was a member of Mount Carmel United Methodist Church of Pikeville. She was loyal and dedicated to her church, having served for 34 years as the wife of a United Methodist Church minister, the Rev. Gerald Rudolph Massey. She was involved in all areas of the church ministry. Her loving spirit and kindness made all who knew her, love her. She was a dedicated mother and grandmother, a positive and caring influence in their lives.
