FREDERICK N. ELLIS

Frederick "Fred" Norton Ellis Sr., retired produce broker, died peacefully at SunBridge Care Center in Mount Olive on Thursday evening, July 19, 2007, after three years of declining health. Mr. Ellis was born in Sampson County to the late Louis Henry Ellis and Annie Watkins Ellis and was their last living survivor. He was preceded in death by his twin brother and 10 other siblings.
Mr. Ellis was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Mount Olive. He was affiliated with the Faison Produce Market in its earliest stage, Twin Produce Company, the Clinton Produce Market, and in produce growth and brokerage from New York along the East Coast to Pompano, Fla., as well as in Cuba, Honduras and Mexico. He was a partner in Twin Motor Sales, a Buick dealership on James Street in Mount Olive. In addition, for many years, he operated a recreation place for young people in Faison featuring the Mighty Blue Notes. He will be remembered with joy by those who knew him for his spell-binding stories about his adventures.
Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday, July 23, 2007, at the Wells-Southerland Cemetery on Williamson Road in the Rones Chapel community, with his pastor, Dr. H. Dennis Draper Jr. officiating. Pallbearers will be Steve Martin, Ray McDonald Jr., Kenny Kirby, Dr. Scott Draughon, David Kornegay and Michael Best. Honorary pallbearers will be Louis Brewer, Ray Brewer, Craven Brewer and Glenn Brewer.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Tyndall Funeral Home in Mount Olive on Sunday, July 22, from 7 until 8:30 p.m., and at other times at the residence on North Martin Street in Mount Olive.
Mr. Ellis is survived by his wife of 49 years, Shirley Wells Ellis; a son and daugher-in-law, Frederick Norton and Mary Hill Ellis Jr. of Goldsboro; a daughter and son-in-law, Judy Carol Ellis and Dr. Barry L. Zindel Denison of Texas; three grandchildren, Braden L. Zindel, Frederick Norton Ellis III, and Kirstin Lindsey Ellis; along with his special Ellis and Wells nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to one's favorite charity.
